Best Baklava in Ghent: The Addresses (2026)

Where's the best baklava in Ghent? Sleepstraat and Dendermondsesteenweg are the two address corridors. Plus: Zehram is in Genk, not Ghent.

You can recognise good baklava by three things: paper-thin layers that crackle, fresh nuts, and a syrup that's sweet without being sticky. At Yasemin everything revolves around Turkish cuisine, so we know what to look for. We don't sell baklava ourselves, but we get asked often: where do you find the real thing in Ghent? Ghent has fewer addresses for it than Antwerp, but one clear winner.

Google ratings checked on 6 August 2026, mostly directly on Google Maps. Ratings shift, so check them before you head out.

Baklavaland (Sleepstraat) — Google 4.4

Sleepstraat 110, in the Sluizeken-Tolhuis-Ham neighbourhood · 4.4 stars from almost 200 reviews. This is Ghent's only genuine baklava specialist and also the best-documented one. Visitors call it "the best place in Flanders for baklava" and praise the combination with Turkish coffee. Breakfast is served too. Note that it's closed on Tuesdays.

In fairness: on Tripadvisor the place scores lower than on Google, and the criticism is almost always about the price, not the quality. So know that you're paying for good baklava.

Looking for Zehram? That's Genk, not Ghent

A lot of people search for "Zehram baklava Ghent". That shop doesn't exist: Zehram Baklavaland is in Genk (Stalenstraat 109), Antwerp, and Heusden-Zolder. The mix-up between Genk and Ghent is understandable, but if you want to get baklava in Ghent, Baklavaland on Sleepstraat is your address.

The two baklava corridors of Ghent

Look around and you'll see Ghent's Turkish food scene concentrated along two axes:

Sleepstraat (Sluizeken-Tolhuis-Ham): the Turkish heart of the city, with Baklavaland at number 110.

Dendermondsesteenweg (Dampoort and Sint-Amandsberg): home to, among others, Adiyaman Çiğköfte at number 39 (Google 4.6, almost 200 reviews) and Dedeoglu at number 141 (Google 4.5, over 600 reviews). Reviews of Adiyaman specifically mention the pistachio künefe as "perfectly balanced and not too sweet".

These Turkish bakeries are named and praised for their baklava in Ghent reviews. We list them without a score, since we couldn't verify their current Google rating:

Bakkerij Istanbul — Wondelgemstraat 76 (Rabot). From the reviews: "Delicious baklava! We'll definitely be back."

Bakkerij Hakmar — Zwijnaardsesteenweg 722. Praised for pide, simit and baklava, with a wide Turkish range.

Hawin Bakkerij — Zonder-Naamstraat (Dampoort). A bakery with baklava on offer, delivery available too.

Mazaya — Steendam 39. Middle Eastern, highly rated (Google 4.8), although it's not a baklava specialist.

Is Şerifoğlu in Ghent?

No. Şerifoğlu only has locations in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, but does ship to Belgium. If you want more choice in Flanders, you'll find it in Antwerp: see the best baklava in Antwerp.

What should you look for in good baklava?

Four things give away quality. The layers: paper-thin and audibly crisp. The nuts: fresh pistachio or walnut, generously dosed, not a thin sprinkle of crumbs. The syrup: sweet but not syrupy-thick; good baklava doesn't stick to your fingers. And freshness: baklava made the same day is a different product from baklava that's been sitting for three days.
